Hot Waterstone Shiatsu and Massage
Course Overview:
York Community College offers training in Japanese Traditional Hot Waterstone Shiatsu (Finger Pressure) and Massage (a full-body massage using heated stones and oils), as taught to Lori-Ann MacLeod by Sensei Tamaki Tezuka. This therapy combines the ancient practice of Shiatsu with the therapeutic use of heated stones. Stones are strategically placed to prepare Shiatsu lines for treatment or used as massage tools for full-body Anma Massage, creating a deeply relaxing experience that enhances circulation and supports detoxification.
This course provides a blended learning experience, including distance learning and a 5-day onsite skills lab and clinical study. Students will explore the essential components of Hot Waterstone Shiatsu and Massage, covering:
- Principles and benefits of stone therapy
- Types of stones used in treatments
- Techniques for safely performing Hot Waterstone Shiatsu and full-body massage
- Hands-on practice during the onsite workshop
Supplies are included, and students will complete a performance demonstration with a client as part of the certification process. Previous experience in bodywork or massage is helpful but not required.
Credentialing:
Upon completion, students will receive certification in Hot Waterstone Shiatsu and Massage, accredited by the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada Association (NHPC) as a specialty under NOC Code 3232. Certification requires passing a final exam and completing a practical demonstration.
Additional Requirements:
To achieve full certification, students must complete 10 documented Hot Waterstone Oil Massages outside of class time. Students are responsible for recording and submitting these sessions as part of their training.
Course Fees:
- Workshop Cost: $550
- Equipment and Supplies: Graduates should budget approximately $400 to purchase the necessary equipment (excluding massage tables or futon mats) to offer Hot Waterstone Shiatsu and Massage in their practice.
This course is ideal for individuals looking to expand their skills in holistic therapies and offer a specialized, deeply relaxing treatment in their professional practice.
