Integrated Shiatsu Therapist Program

Shiatsu plays a crucial role in fostering deeper human connection and cooperation, particularly in today’s fast-paced, industrialized, and technological world. York Community College is committed to guiding students through their Shiatsu training in a structured, step-by-step format. This approach enables students to progressively advance their skills and apply their knowledge at each level of practice. Throughout the program, students will study Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology from a Western perspective, translated into Eastern Theory, as well as complete a comprehensive Ethics and Business course, along with Case Studies required for certification.

The Integrated Shiatsu Therapist program combines a variety of bodywork techniques, including Oriental Bodywork, Acupressure, and Meridian Floor Shiatsu as part of the Certified Holistic Health & Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma Program. Students will learn the theory and practical application of:

  • Namikoshi Style Shiatsu (table and floor)
  • Meridian Floor Shiatsu
  • Acupressure
  • Hot Waterstone Shiatsu
  • Chair Shiatsu
  • Other Oriental Bodywork Therapies

These diverse bodywork skills equip graduates to become well-rounded, confident practitioners, capable of offering a wide range of holistic treatments.

Upon completion of the Integrated Shiatsu Therapist portion of the CHHSP program, students upon applications may be eligible  for registration as a Shiatsu Therapist under the Shiatsu Therapy Association of BC or join the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) with recognized disciplines in Acupressure, Shiatsu, and a specialty in Hot Stone Therapy.
